artist statement
In the abundance of images that come our way today, Kieke Kurstjens look for images that come close, by looking at her (more-than-human) surroundings. For example for ‘the Golden Gaze’ she turned her eye towards the "weeds" around her childhood home. She uses Wonder as a tool for (re)connecting with the beauty of the everyday. Fascinated by still lifes, she centres this Wonder.
In her current project ‘Stille Stadbewoners’, she turns her eye to the plants of the city, in search of moments when we can see the city beyond its human perspective.
